1st Driver Appearance of 2008-1/15/2008
On the 15th of January Scottie made his first driver appearance of 2008 in front of a group of scouts from Pleasant Grove, UT. They were full of questions, enthusiasm and excitement as they saw a "real" racecar and driver. January is the national Pine Wood Derby month for the scouts. They came to look and learn at different aspects of racing. With a total of nearly twenty five scouts and leaders it was a day to remember for all. The kids were very ecstatic to get their picture taken inside of the racecar and then to get an autographed hero card. The real joy came, when they were about to leave, and Scottie stopped them all and gave them a real treat........the loud roaring exhaust as he brought the car to life!! That moment was the talk for the day among the kids!!!
3/3/2008-A sad day for Scottie25.com Motorsports
As I sit here and stare at a blank computer screen I find myself pondering about how precious life is for me and everybody around me that I love. I got the news today that my dear friend, and title sponsor of Scottie25.com Motorsports, Jason Husebye has passed away. He was the owner of Utah Prime Properties and Development First, both of which have contributed to and supported our race team. I met Jason in the summer of 2002 when I was in the need of a good real estate agent. I walked into an office and Jason walked by. It was an instant friendship. Over the last few years we had grown to be great friends. If it wasn't for Jason wanting to see my dreams come true, I wouldn't be on the racetrack today. I became his personal mechanic for whatever he needed. I am currently in the middle of helping him and his family restore a 1956 Cadillac. It was his grandfathers car and I am proud to be involved in something that brought him so much joy. Jason will deeply be missed by anybody that knew him!!!
JASON, WE LOVE YOU!! YOU'LL ALWAYS BE RIDING WITH US!!!

4/25/2008-4/26/2008-HEARTACHE TO TRIUMPH
As the first race of the season came closer, the preparation got more and more intense. there were a lot of late nights and a lot of frustration when we learned that RK CYCLE had failed to get the #23 motor assembled in time after having it for two months. That meant that only the #25 would be racing the first weekend. We had high hopes when we arrived at the track Friday morning. In the first practice session the car wasn't running right. Little did we know at the time how long of weekend we were about to have. We preceded to look for problems. We changed spark plugs, coils, checked for anything else we could see and by the end of the night it still wouldn't run for more than 1 or 2 laps. We had arranged for some new parts to be brought to us Saturday morning and the work began. We put in new injectors, cleaned the fuel system, put in new fuel, and then went off to the track to see if it worked. The stumble was gone but now the car would loose fuel pressure in the turns. We went back to the drawing board. On a last chance effort we saw something, the only thing, that hadn't been changed. So we redesigned some fuel lines and went out for our last chance to try it.....The Main Event. I started on the back row and took the green. As I went through the first turn the car ran perfect and I knew this was going to be our race. I passed two cars on the first lap and then a couple more when I began a 4 lap dogfight for the 1st position. We got a little too close and touched. That enabled the 3rd place car to get by both of us. I regained my composure and got back into the 2nd spot. With only a few laps left I was able to run down the leader and was just about to make my move when he had trouble. As I went by him I knew that all I had to do was be smooth and finish. 1 lap later the #25 took the checkered flag and won the main event!!!! It was a long hard fight but well worth it. We are now getting BOTH cars ready for our next race. We will be racing in Blackfoot, ID on May 10th. The video should be posted in a day or two.
5-10-2008-Awesome Racing In Idaho
As we got BOTH cars ready for the race in Atomic City, ID you could feel the anticipation in the air! This would be the first race of the season for the #23 and the third for the #25. With very little practice on the 3/8 oval we lined up for the heat race. The # 23 started third row outside and the #25 started fourth row inside. When the green flag flew someone in the front of the pack didn't go when everybody else did; the result.......the #25 "pushed" the car in front of him for a few feet before getting tangled up, sideways, and in the infield before we got straightened out. The #23 took off and was battling for the Fourth position when the #25 finally caught up. THE RACE WAS ON!! We both got very competitive and gave each other about 1 inch more than necessary to race. After a few laps The #25 finally got by and thought it was over. It was short lived as the #23 stuck his nose on the bottom and got under the #25. As the battle increased we both drifted high out of turn two and the #25 went half way off the edge of the track and lost the spot. We would end up finishing fifth and sixth with the #23 ahead.
As the changes were made to the cars in preparation for the main event we learned that we would start side by side three rows back for the feature race. The #25 had clutch problems and decided to get a push start and race without it. Nobody had to say anything about the excitement we felt as everybody could see it our eyes!! We took the green and took off. The track had become pretty rough throughout the night, but it didn't stop anybody from pushing it to the edge. Both Scottie25.com Motorsports cars were running fairly even and passing cars as they went. The #25 had worked his way into the fourth position when a caution came out. Under the yellow flag laps the #23 gave a friendly "chrome horn" gesture to reassure the #25 that he was there and was going to give him a hell of race. When we restarted the #25 went high and the #23 went low. Side-by-side again. The battle would be short lived as the #23 broke a transmission and was done for the night. Soon after, the #25 had passed one more car and was next to the second place car when another caution came out. It hadn't been a complete lap since the pass was made so we reverted back one lap, relined up and restarted. The #25 was in fourth and soon passed the car that was in second in a three wide show with the third place car. Now in third and hot on the heels for second we were all running into lapped traffic. It made for a great and tight finish race to the checkered flag. The #25 didn't quite have enough for the leaders and brought home a third place trophy.
We will now go back to the shop and get both cars fixed for our next points race in Price, UT on may 31st. If time and money allow(and the cars are ready) we will try to go to Olathe, CO on May 24Th and 25Th. Until next time, Go Fast And Turn Left!!!
5-24-08, 5-25-08-Journey to Olathe
It was a long drive to get to Olathe, CO. 5 1/2 hours to be exact. It would prove to be a fun and frustrating trip. On Saturday we unloaded to find that the track would need three houses of packing to make it raceable. When the races finally started and 9pm both cars had to start in the back(visitor rule). The local cars had the track figured out and it showed as both of our cars struggled to find the correct setup. By the end of the heat race we had gotten fairly good and finished in the top five. When got lined up for our main we were about mid pack. The green flag flew and off we went. I had worked my way to fifth when we came up on lap traffic. I went low to pass him and by the time I got there so did he. I touched his left rear tire and airborne I went. I landed on his hood and then bounced sideways along the front stretch. My night was done. Jerry was right behind us when all this happened and to evasive action to clear the wreckage. His car was OK but a little pushy. When the checkered flag dropped he finished in the fifth spot. On Sunday morning we got the car fixed(with the help of the local racers). We were able to draw for our starting spots and as our luck would have it........we both drew the back row. We got lined up for the heat races and learned that the tacky track we had on Saturday had turned into an ice rink. Jerry had passed a car or two when on the third lap his clutches burned up again. My car didn't handle good at all and I finished the heat towards the back. When it came time for the main the track had only gotten worse. We had made numerous changes to the car to make it handle better; it didn't work. It was all I could do to drive the car as everyone else was spinning out. I had lasted longer than some and was in the fourth spot with 5 laps to go on a restart. Some of the better cars got by me and I finished seventh over all. Not to bad and just happy to have the car coming home in one piece. It was really fun to race on a new-to-us track and see some racers we hadn't seen for a while. Onto price we go!!
5-31-08- A BIRTHDAY TO REMEMBER!!
As we unloaded the cars at the track I was quickly reminded(and everybody else was informed) that it was my birthday. The banners were hung, signs were made, and worst of all, the track announcer knew. I knew it was going to be a good night of racing when we walked the track and seen how hard it was. I like the track like that because I can drive it like I'm on asphalt. I had drawn a high number and that meant that I would start in the back for my heat race. Jerry had drawn a number that let him start in the middle of the pack in his heat race. As the green flew he jumped out to the lead and, though there were many yellow flags, he never looked back!! He won his heat race by half a straight a way. Now it was my turn. I took the green and let-'er-rip! The car felt great, but by the time I got through traffic there was a big gap between me and the leader. I had five laps to run him down and when the race ended I had gotten within one car length to finish second. Not a bad finish but I knew that I was going to have the car to beat! Both the Scottie25.com motorsports car had earned a spot in the trophy dash. I started on the pole and Jerry was second row outside. On the start I took off and got the lead. Unfortunately Jerry had clutch problems again. Nobody could touch me!! I went on to win my first trophy dash of 2008. Then came the mad dash to fix Jerry's car. We had come up with a solution to fix all the clutch problems and set out to do it. His car got put together just in time to line up for the main. The line up invert fell in our favor as I started on the pole and Jerry would start second row outside. As the race started I took the lead and kept on going. I made sure that I didn't make a mistake to loose the lead. Jerry's car ran great for a few laps until his car developed a severe push that would end his hopes of battling with me for the win. Just before the halfway point a caution came out for a stopped car. As we relined up I had the top two cars in the points right behind me. I knew I had to get a great restart to win the race. I did! When the race went back to green I got the jump and never looked back. I had a close call when I had lap traffic to get through, but it worked out OK and I took the checkered flag a half a lap before the second place car!!!! With the handling problems Jerry was having he was able to salvage a sixth place finish. We now have a couple of weeks off until our next race. We will continue to tweak on the cars and hopefully will get both of them to the top next time. Until then, GO FAST TURN LEFT!!!
6/14/2008-Scottie continues his streak
The day was nice and hot. No wind, no clouds, just a perfect day for racing!! The car felt almost perfect in the few hot laps that we got. I drew a fairly OK starting spot for the heat race; outside the second row. When the race started I took off to an early lead. The track had changed from earlier in the day and that made the car a little loose......OK a lot loose. It was all I could do to hold off the hard charging cars that were running me down. I got loose coming out of turn two and lost two positions. I kept digging and fighting and on the last lap I lost another position. Luckily coming out of turn four I got a good run and got that position back by a foot at the line. I was OK finishing third after seeing how the car was handling. It was a good enough finish to get me into the trophy dash. Knowing that I couldn't race the car the way it was, the work was on. We made numerous changes to make the car handle better. I started the dash on the pole and once again took off to an early lead. It only lasted for one and a half laps before the car pushed really bad and the other three cars got by me. It was back to the drawing board. We made a few more changes and got set for the main event. I started outside the first row. Once again the flag flew and I was gone. I had captured the lead by the time we got to the first turn and within a couple of laps I knew that we had made the right changes. The car felt AWESOME!!! I was slowly walking away from the rest of the field. Just after the halfway point a caution came out for a car that had spun around. We lined back up and got the restart. I thought it was going to be a replay of the whole night when suddenly i noticed a tire to the inside of me. We battled for a lap and the the caution came out again. I got another chance to keep the field behind me. I got a good restart and was safe for a lap. Then a car got side by side with me and we had a good race going on. I was just ahead of him when he drove into turn three too hard and hit my right rear tire with his left front tire. The two don't mix very well and the end result was the front of his car going air borne. He was able to gather it up without losing a spot but that gave me the gap I needed to get into my rhythm. A few laps later and the race was over. I had held the field off for one more victory!!!
Jerry's day wouldn't go as according to plan. He started the heat race on the last row and it didn't get much better. When the race started he passed a few cars and then his car began to push. He fought long enough and hard enough that he was able to salvage a sixth place finish. We also made a lot of changes to his car before the main in hopes of trying to make his car turn better. He started in the middle of the field on the outside row. In the first couple of laps it looked like his car was handling great. He had worked his way up to the third spot when he once again started to push. He did an excellent job of driving the ill handling car until the end of the race. Just like the heat race he came across the line in the sixth position. We are going to totally redo the setup in his car to fix the push before next race.
7-4-2008, 7-5-2008 JERRY'S FIRST TROPHY!!!
It was a typical fourth of July day. Hot, Sunny, and Excitement so deep we almost could drown. As we unloaded the cars we were reunited with our friends from neighboring states that had come to join the fun. Pretty soon the game faces came out and it was every man for himself, so to speak. Once again Jerry and I had been put into separate heat races. Jerry started on the last row inside and made a fast charge to the second position on the first lap. He was following Marcus Wicks and they both put on one heck of a show! With all the racing that the leaders where doing; the third place car had snuck up and was now battling Jerry for the second spot. It only took one little slip from Jerry and the number 17 driven by D.J. Snyder snuck underneath and stole the spot. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time left and Jerry finished third. I too started on the last row inside for my heat race. I was able to pass one car on the first lap and then had to work to catch up to the next car. It took me a lap or so to get by the number 3 piloted by Darrin Hubbard. By that time the car's handling had gone away and there was no hope of catching up to the leaders. By the time the race ended I had worked my way up to the fourth spot. Neither one of us had finished good enough to make the trophy dash, this time. We made some adjustments to try to compensate for the slick track conditions and then went out for the main event to see if they worked. Jerry lined up inside the third row and I was on the fourth row outside. When the green flew, so did we. By the end of the first lap Jerry was fourth and I was hot on his heels. We spent the next five or six laps swapping positions and then the number 88 of Rick Davis got by me and was just enough better than me that I couldn't get the spot back. During all of our battling back and forth the second place car had problems and pulled off the track. Jerry finished third and I finished fifth.
We came back on Saturday knowing that the competition was tough and knew that if we wanted a shot at a win we would need to step it up. We had made some changes to both cars, some for handling and some to make them run better. Once again the two cars from Scottie25.com Motorsports started in separate heat races. Jerry was in the first heat. He started inside the second row and quickly passed a car and was following the leader closely. It was a good hard race. Jerry tried to pass on the inside and on the outside all while not letting the third place car pass him. When the checkered flag came Second place was all that Jerry could do. But, that was good enough to get him a front row starting spot for the trophy dash. I started my heat on the last row inside, again. On the first lap I passed two cars and was running fourth. My car was fast but still too loose to catch up to the leaders. I was able to catch and pass the number 88 for the third spot and that's where I finished. Now it was time for the trophy dash. Jerry was determined to bring home a trophy. He took the green and never looked back. He won his first trophy and that got the whole team fired up!! With good heat race finishes we both got good starting spots for the main. Jerry front row outside and me on the third row outside. Once again, by the end of the first lap Jerry had jumped out to an early lead and I had passed a couple of cars and was right behind him. His car developed a big push and that allowed me to get under him for the lead. I didn't know where the rest of the field was but I knew they were coming. I drove the wheels off my machine and after a restart continued to lead. Jerry was able to hang on to second for a few more laps when the ill handling car got the best of him and he lost a few spots. In an attempt to throw the car into the turn, to compensate for the push, He misjudged the exit and cut it too close. He hit the left front tire on the track marker tire and broke a heim joint. His night would be done. As for me, my car was following the same path as Jerry's, pushy. I drove the car any way I could think of to keep the car drivable, but my luck would soon run out. On lap 17 of 20 my car pushed so hard that I had to almost stop to keep from hitting the wall. That enabled three cars to get by me. I wound up finishing fourth. Not too bad; Cars are in one piece and we had some respectable finishes. Now we will get ready for the next race on Aug. 2ND in Price, UT.
Until then GO FAST TURN LEFT!!!
Please check out the archives page for all the past race stories. Thanks
Webmaster note: We will be taking video and hope to post those Utah mini sprint racing videos shortly after the race. Hopefully Saturday's racing will likely be posted Monday evening or Tuesday Morning. The in-car camera had its fair share of problems this weekend so we will be fixing that and will hopefully have them for the next race.
