As we got BOTH cars ready for the race in Atomic City, ID you could feel the anticipation in the air! This would be the first race of the season for the #23 and the third for the #25. With very little practice on the 3/8 oval we lined up for the heat race. The # 23 started third row outside and the #25 started fourth row inside. When the green flag flew someone in the front of the pack didn't go when everybody else did; the result.......the #25 "pushed" the car in front of him for a few feet before getting tangled up, sideways, and in the infield before we got straightened out. The #23 took off and was battling for the Fourth position when the #25 finally caught up. THE RACE WAS ON!! We both got very competitive and gave each other about 1 inch more than necessary to race. After a few laps The #25 finally got by and thought it was over. It was short lived as the #23 stuck his nose on the bottom and got under the #25. As the battle increased we both drifted high out of turn two and the #25 went half way off the edge of the track and lost the spot. We would end up finishing fifth and sixth with the #23 ahead.
As the changes were made to the cars in preparation for the main event we learned that we would start side by side three rows back for the feature race. The #25 had clutch problems and decided to get a push start and race without it. Nobody had to say anything about the excitement we felt as everybody could see it our eyes!! We took the green and took off. The track had become pretty rough throughout the night, but it didn't stop anybody from pushing it to the edge. Both Scottie25.com Motorsports cars were running fairly even and passing cars as they went. The #25 had worked his way into the fourth position when a caution came out. Under the yellow flag laps the #23 gave a friendly "chrome horn" gesture to reassure the #25 that he was there and was going to give him a hell of race. When we restarted the #25 went high and the #23 went low. Side-by-side again. The battle would be short lived as the #23 broke a transmission and was done for the night. Soon after, the #25 had passed one more car and was next to the second place car when another caution came out. It hadn't been a complete lap since the pass was made so we reverted back one lap, relined up and restarted. The #25 was in fourth and soon passed the car that was in second in a three wide show with the third place car. Now in third and hot on the heels for second we were all running into lapped traffic. It made for a great and tight finish race to the checkered flag. The #25 didn't quite have enough for the leaders and brought home a third place trophy.
We will now go back to the shop and get both cars fixed for our next points race in Price, UT on may 31st. If time and money allow(and the cars are ready) we will try to go to Olathe, CO on May 24Th and 25Th. Until next time, Go Fast And Turn Left!!!
Webmaster note: We will be taking video and hope to post those Utah mini sprint racing videos shortly after the race. Hopefully Saturday's racing will likely be posted Monday evening or Tuesday Morning. The in-car camera had its fair share of problems this weekend so we will be fixing that and will hopefully have them for the next race.
